The Rolling Stones biography

The Rolling Stones are a legendary British rock band formed in London in 1962. The band was initially composed of vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarists Keith Richards and Brian Jones, pianist Ian Stewart, and bassist Bill Wyman. They were later joined by drummer Charlie Watts. With their distinctive blend of rock, blues, and R&B, The Rolling Stones became one of the most influential and successful bands in the history of music. Throughout their career, The Rolling Stones released numerous hit albums and singles, including iconic songs like 'Paint It Black', 'Sympathy for the Devil', and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'. They are known for their energetic live performances and rebellious image, often associated with the counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s. The Rolling Stones have sold over 250 million records worldwide and continue to tour and record new music to this day. They are widely regarded as one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

The Rolling Stones controversies

Over the course of their long career, The Rolling Stones have faced several controversies. One of the most notable controversies occurred in 1967 when their song 'Let's Spend the Night Together' was deemed too explicit for television by the Ed Sullivan Show. The band was forced to change the lyrics to 'Let's Spend Some Time Together' during their live performance. In 1969, The Rolling Stones were entangled in another controversy known as the 'Altamont Speedway Free Festival'. The festival, which was intended to be a West Coast equivalent of Woodstock, turned into a nightmarish event marked by violence and the tragic death of a concertgoer. The incident tarnished the band's reputation and the era of peace and love associated with the 1960s counterculture. Throughout the years, The Rolling Stones have also faced controversies related to drug use, tax evasion, and provocative lyrics. Despite these controversies, their music and influence have remained enduring.
